


Release It Counseling Internship Program
Empowered Clinicians: Developing the Next Generation of Compassionate, Culturally Humble Leaders
Overview
At Release It Counseling, we are honored to serve as a clinical training site for Master of Social Work (MSW) students who are passionate about trauma-informed, faith-aligned, and culturally responsive mental health care.
Our Empowered Clinicians Internship Program provides immersive, hands-on learning experiences in a professional environment centered on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Power Analysis, and Anti-Racism.
Interns receive direct mentorship from Whitney Smith-Johnson, LCSW, Chief Clinical Operations Officer and Clinical Supervisor, whose leadership approach integrates excellence, cultural humility, and authentic faith.

What We Offer

On-site clinical training at our Suffolk, Virginia office

Weekly individual and group supervision
-
Opportunities to observe and participate in client sessions (self-pay clients only)

Exposure to practice management, documentation, and ethical care standards

Participation in staff development, team meetings, and community outreach initiatives

Eligibility Criteria
-
Currently enrolled in a CSWE-accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) program or CACREP- accredited Counseling program.

In good academic standing and approved by the university for field placement
-
Available to complete hours on-site during Release It Counseling’s regular business hours
-
Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and commitment to confidentiality

Important Notes

Internship positions are educational and unpaid.

Remote, after-hours, or off-site work is not permitted.

All clinical activities occur under the supervision and license of Whitney Smith-Johnson, LCSW.

Interns may not bill insurance or provide independent services.
